Victor “Coach”Hicks is the founder and director of Coding with Culture, an organization designed to create a Kindergarten through HBCU pathway in Computer Science and STEM. Coding with Culture helps build this pathway though offering culturally enriched camps and classes for students in grades K-12 in computer science and STEM. In addition to working with young people directly, Victor’s innovative approach, combining project based learning with culturally relevant topics such as Historically Black College history and culture serves as the core of the Coding With Culture camps, curriculum and educator professional development.. Victor’s work has been featured at several educational technology conferences, podcasts among other platforms. In addition, Coding with Culture was featured in EdTech and Forbes magazine in early 2022 for the work done in the CS community around creating a diverse, equitable and inclusive space for African American children in computer science to directly combat the alarming underrepresentation in the world of technology. Victor currently serves as the secretary of the Georgia chapter of the Computer Science Teachers’ Association. He is a proud member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. and attended two Historically Black Colleges, Fisk University in Nashville TN and Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta, GA. Through a partnership, Victor is currently teaching the most brilliant young Black women at Ivy Prep Academy computer science & engineering while coaching the “Ivy Pearls” HBCU Ready Step Team!
