Mary is a primary school teacher based in Scotland. She has spoken at conferences and webinars on the subjects of global citizenship, digital citizenship, play based learning and engaging children in reading. Mary and her class have won awards in blogging, first aid and reading. Mary started using social media in the classroom in 2009 as a means to build communication and relationships with parents and families, and this grew into forging connections with the local and global community in order to enrich learning.
Mary is best known for her travelling elephants, class mascots who go on work experience and visit classes around the world to help her young students learn about the world of work, current affairs and to connect with people from different countries and cultures.
Mary is committed to embedding global citizenship and SDGs into every day learning to help nurture responsible citizens, and equally committed to listening to children, empowering them to lead their learning and helping them to explore their curiosities. Mary believes that integrating tech in the classroom, teaching digital literacy and helping children to use tech for good is essential for every child.
